Imports
Exporters and U.S. Importers have always had the responsibility for
exercising “Reasonable Care” by ensuring the accuracy and completeness of
their documentation submitted to U.S. Customs. However, the Mod Act has
expanded these responsibilities from merely describing goods accurately to
being responsible for correctly determining proper classification, duty
rate, value, quota, preference programs, and all other agency requirements
pertaining to imports. In other words, importers are now held responsible
for the classification, valuation, and other agency compliance issues, which
U.S. Customs previously determined.

Commercial Airline Shipments by Foreign
Customers
To help our foreign customers save valuable turn time when shipping
components to Aero Instruments & Avionics, Inc., we have the following
suggestions to help you avoid unnecessary U.S. Customs delays:
Our experience has shown that shipping components using express couriers
(i.e. UPS, Federal Express, DHL, etc.) saves valuable shipping time since
these couriers provide proficient customs clearing services as part of their
international shipping service.
If you decide to use a commercial airline to ship your unit to us, it is
very important to use this
sample airway bill
as a guideline for properly filling out your airway bill. The airport of
destination should read “Buffalo, NY” not just “New York”. If “New York” is
listed as the airport of destination, your shipment will be held by U.S.
Customs at JFK or LaGuardia International Airport in New York City, which is
several hundred miles away. In order to retrieve these shipments we must hire
a customs broker who may charge $100.00 or more plus any additional customs
& handling fees to have the shipment sent from New York City to our
facility. This results in extra costs being added to your service invoice.
Also, please include the exact contact information in the handling
information box on the airway bill. This will ensure that your shipment gets
into the proper hands once it gets to the Buffalo airport, and clears U.S.
Customs as soon as possible.
